For several years, Coe Missions for Christ has participated in the Secret Sister program. The Secret Sister program is designed to secretly pair women who then, swap cards, poems, prayers, or unexpected small gifts if desired, encouraging one another until the big reveal. The big reveal for those participating this year occurred on April 12th. The ladies enjoyed an evening of good food, great entertainment, and a special time for the reveal of their secret sister. The evening began with an opening prayer by Bonnie Palmer for the delicious meal provided by each lady present. Kathy Dennis, Jan Fowler, Faith Best, Jan Leonard, and Val Stahl captivated the ladies with special music and read humorous short stories that provided much laughter.
Following the music, Glenda Taylor read a very touching poem written by Erma Bombeck titled, "If I Had My Life To Live Over." Erma wrote this after discovering she had a fatal disease. This reading certainly made every woman think about how we live our daily lives and what is most important in life. Erma emphasizes the importance of being a good listener and friend to others, observing and watching life more, sharing responsibilities within the marriage and the home, taking care of ourselves when sick, being loving and apologetic when we are wrong, and cherishing our ability to bear children as our 'only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
To get the reveal started, Bonnie Palmer read a short poem that gave the ladies wearing pink the opportunity to reveal who their secret sister was for the year and to give them a final gift. All other ladies then took a turn revealing and exchanging gifts. Twenty-two ladies participated over the past year. The program ended with each lady receiving a new secret sister. Thirty-three ladies will participant in 2018-2019. Each lady will be given a short survey to take that will give her secret sister insight into her favorite things. Coe Missions for Christ will be hosting "A Day of Remembrance" on May 27th. Any member wishing to honor family members may bring their own flowers or use provided flowers for the remembrance. The flowers will be made into floral arrangements for the shut-ins on May 29th.
